MIL-STD 1397 Buffer Box

PURVIS Systems offers a family of interface products that transform MIL-STD-1397 electrical signals into data usable by commercial processors and recording systems. The interface products also handle the necessary NTDS handshaking protocols. Current products include interfaces for NTDS Type A (Slow), NTDS Type B (Fast), and NTDS Type C (ANEW). Supporting this product line are NTDS buffer boxes, which allow the VME processing system to passively tap an existing NTDS communications path. PURVIS also offers NTDS interfaces for the Hewlett-Packard family of computers and UNIBUS/Qbus interfaces for the Digital Equipment Corporation family of computers.

PURVIS Systems NTDS Buffer Unit is a breakout-box designed to passively tap and retransmit NTDS data from a tactical system. NTDS data from the Buffer Unit is transmitted to the monitoring system via an interface system cable assembly.

Operation

The NTDS Buffer Unit contains differential line-receivers and line-driver channels, which transmit 32-bit NTDS data to the user system and prevents potential anomalies from being reflected back to the tactical system. 12 volt dc power is provided to the Buffer Unit via the interface system cable assembly to the host system.
